Angola selects winners in latest oil and gas bid round

Angola has selected the winners for four onshore oil and gas concessions in the Congo and Kwanza basins in its latest bid round, the country’s upstream regulator ANPG announced on Monday.

The two licences on the Congo Basin will be operated by Etu Energias (formerly Somoil).

The CON 2 block will see the operator take a 50% stake alongside US independent Effimax Energy with a 30% stake and local player Simples Oil with a 20% stake.

The CON 8 block will see the operator take a 40% stake alongside Effimax Energy with a 30% stake, Simples Oil with a 20% stake and local junior Enagol with a 10% stake.

On the Kwanza basin, the KON 13 block will be operated by UK-based player Serinus Energy with a 55% stake with partners Effimax Energy with a 30% stake and state-run Sonangol with a 15% stake.

KON 19 – also located on the Kwanza basin – will be operated by local player Acrep with a 45% stake alongside partners London-listed Afentra with a 45% stake and Enagol with a 10% stake.

The regulator also listed the names of companies that qualified to bid on blocks.

Operators that did not win bids include Walcot, Simples Oil, Intank Group, Transoceanic and Ace Energy.

All companies qualified as non-operators won shares blocks listed in the round.

In November 2023, Angola announced it had received 53 bids for the onshore bid round.
