Angola to see €524-million solar investment

LUANDA, March 12, 2021 – In Angola, US solar developer Sun Africa has launched what it believes is the largest battery photovoltaic (PV) campaign in sub-Saharan Africa, with an investment of EUR 524 million.

Through seven separate solar projects, the company will install a total capacity of 370 MW in six provinces.

The first and largest of the projects – at 118 MW – will be located in Biópio, in the province of Benguela.

Investment for the projects is coming from the Swedish Export Credit Corporation, South Korea’s K-Sure and South Africa’s DBSA, Sun Solar said earlier this week. The banking syndicate is led by the European bank ING.

A subsidiary of Chicago-based UGT Renewables, Sun Africa is a utility-scale solar project developer and off-grid solution provider.
