Angola’s Sonadrill wins 12-well contract

LUANDA, May 17, 2021 – Angola’s Sonadrill has won a 12-well contract for the Sonangol Quenguela ultra-deepwater drillship, with the firm portion of the contract valued at around USD 131 million.

The contract will begin in Q1 2022 and run to Q3 2023, parent company Seadrill announced on Friday.

 

Sonadrill is a 50/50 joint venture between international deepwater drilling contractor Seadrill and Angolan NOC Sonangol, created Sonadrill to operate Seadrill’s fleet in Angola.

“Sonadrill is a strategic partnership in an important deepwater basin. The operational excellence and experience of our team has driven this expansion of the joint venture,” Seadrill CEO Stuart Jackson said.

“Securing the contract for the Sonangol Quenguela drillship is a great achievement, and is a testament to the confidence that our partners and clients have in the company and its staff.”

Sonadrill focuses its operations on the high-potential Angolan deepwater market via its state-of-the-art Libongos and Quenguela  drillships.
