Jafurah is Saudi Arabia’s largest unconventional non-associated gasfield.
Upstream cited the company’s upstream president, Nasir K. Al Naimi, as saying Aramco’s unconventional gas output would be used for domestic consumption, displacing 500,000 bopd of crude.
Last month, Aramco announced a significant increase to reserves at Jafurah following the discovery of an additional 425 bcm (15 tcf) of gas and 2 billion boe of condensate.
Total proven reserves of the unconventional Jafurah gasfield now stand at 6.5 tcm (229 tcf) of gas and 75 billion boe of condensate.
“Jafurah is the most extensive unconventional shale gas development in the Middle East, and this new assessment lays the groundwork to calculate proven reserves more accurately in shale plays with similar conditions across the industry,” Al Naimi told Upstream.
