Attack at French gas plant kills 1
France Two assailants drove a vehicle flying an Islamist flag into the plant and rammed into gas canisters, causing an explosion. A decapitated body was reportedly found near the plant.
The attack, which took place at 10:00 a.m. local time, has been widely deemed an act of terrorism.
“The attack bears the hallmarks of a terrorist attack,” French President François Hollande said, noting that a suspect has been identified and arrested.
The French government has mobilized 10,000 soldiers to protect similar sites around the country.
The plant is owned by US-headquartered multinational Air Products and Chemicals, which supplies gases and chemicals for a range of industries.
The company operates in 50 countries with more than 750 production sites.
