Azule Energy to open Namibia office in 2026
WINDHOEK, April 16, 2026 – Azule Energy will open a permanent office in Namibia by June 2026 and appoint Giovanni Aquilina as general manager of operations in the country, Energy Capital & Power reported on Wednesday.
The move follows Azule’s 2024 entry into Block 2914A in Namibia’s Orange Basin with the acquisition of a 42.5% stake, in what was its first international deal since the company was formed in 2022 as a joint venture between BP and Eni.
Block 2914A is operated by Rhino Resources, which also holds 42.5% interest, and is participated in by the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia, with 10%, and Korres Investments, which holds 5%. The block yielded a light oil discovery in April 2025 in the Capricornus 1-X exploration well.
Giovanni Aquilina has been part of the PEL 85 exploration team for approximately two years. The company has indicated that PEL 85 will continue to be its main focus in Namibia, with no current plans to expand into new blocks.
In comments at the Namibia International Energy Conference, Azule Energy CEO Joe Murphy pointed to the need for new infrastructure and supply bases in Namibia ahead of investment decisions, adding that the company’s new office will have job creation as part of its mandate, towards meeting the effective requirements of its projects.
