Bahrain find holds 80 bln barrels: report

Bahrain’s largest discovery to date, initially announced on Sunday, contains more than 80 billion barrels of oil and up to 566 bcm (20 tcf) of gas, oil minister Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said Wednesday.

“DeGolyer and MacNaughton’s and Haliburton’s independent appraisals have confirmed NOGA’s find of highly significant quantities of oil in-place for the Khalij Al Bahrain,” Al Khalifa said, cited by Bahraini state news agency BNA. NOGA, the National Oil & Gas Authority, supervises the development of Bahrain’s oil and gas industry.

“Agreement has been reached with Halliburton to commence drilling on two further appraisal wells in 2018, to further evaluate reservoir potential, optimise completions, and initiate long-term production,” he added.

In a separate report, Platts said that NOC Bahrain Petroleum had started talks with IOCs with the aim of bringing the field on stream in 2022 with an output of 200,000 bopd and 28.3 mcm (1 bcf) of gas per day.
