Baker Hughes joins Alaska LNG project as strategic partner
WASHINGTON, D.C., November 11, 2025 – Baker Hughes has signed a definitive agreement with Glenfarne Alaska LNG to advance the Alaska LNG project through a strategic investment and the supply of compression and power equipment, Baker Hughes announced on Monday.
Under the agreement, Baker Hughes will supply power generation equipment for a gas treatment plant in Alaska’s North Slope and the main refrigerant compressors for the Alaska LNG terminal. The company did not provide details on the size and scope of its strategic investment in the project.
The agreement was announced in a ceremony in Washington, D.C., attended by US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
Alaska LNG is being developed in two financially independent phases. Phase One consists of a 1,300-kilometre pipeline to transport natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope, while Phase Two will cover the construction of an LNG terminal and associated infrastructure to export up to 20 million tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG.
“Alaska LNG has the potential to be one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects in our nation’s history. Today’s investment announcement is an important step forward for the project, prosperity in Alaska, and the energy security of America and our allies,” said Chris Wright.
Led by US energy infrastructure developer Glenfarne Group, Alaska LNG has secured preliminary commercial commitments from LNG buyers in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand for 11 million tpy, representing more than 60% of the required offtake to reach FID. Glenfarne became the lead developer of Alaska LNG in March 2025.
“Baker Hughes is a welcome partner for Alaska LNG because of their leadership in LNG compression technology. Their participation reflects Alaska LNG’s momentum and its ability to attract global partners to achieve national and state energy objectives,” said Brendan Duval, founder and CEO of Glenfarne.
Towards reaching the FID on Phase One, engineering firm Worley is expected to deliver the final engineering and cost analysis for Phase One by December 2025. The FID on Phase Two is expected in late 2026.
Glenfarne Group manages more than 60 assets across LNG, renewables and grid stability segments. The group has LNG development projects in Alaska, Texas and Louisiana for a total of 32.8 million tpy of capacity.
