Baker Hughes wins extensive PNG contract

Papua New Guinea
Australia’s Twinza has hired Baker Hughes to provide fullstream services for the development of the Pasca A gas and condensate field offshore Papua New Guinea, the oilfield services provider said Tuesday.

The company said in a statement that the contract would be “an industry first” since traditionally different companies have been responsible for different parts of a field development project.

“Having a single point of contact and a complete offering for a complex project was one of the key reasons why we partnered with BHGE,” said Twinza CEO Huw Evans. “With its fullstream capabilities, BHGE was able to propose a fully integrated services and equipment offering using a modular state of the art approach, high tech solutions and systems that ‘talk to each other’ for optimisation.”

The services offered will include drilling services, gas compression and processing equipment, subsea works and integrated digital services that can save up to 5% of costs and will “enable Twinza to complete appraisal drilling and proceed to FID,” the company statement said.

The exact value of the contract was not disclosed, but Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli told Reuters it was in the “hundreds of millions” of US dollars.

Pasca A, with estimated reserves of 93 million boe, is the first offshore development in Papua New Guinea. Twinza, which owns 100% of the licence for the field, expects an FID for the project next year, according to the press release.
