Saudi Aramco hands $1.7-billion contract to China’s CPECC

Saudi Aramco has awarded a USD 1.7-billion gas infrastructure contract to China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Company (CPECC), Upstream Online reported on Monday.

The Chinese player will undertake EPC works for the phase three expansion of Aramco’s Master Gas System (MGS-3), supporting the expansion of three booster stations and the development of support facilities.

The MGS-3 project involves the construction of a 4,000-kilometre pipeline designed to increase domestic gas distribution, reducing the country’s emissions and oil consumption.

Ranking among the largest projects in Aramco’s history, the USD 10-billion Master Gas System phase three expansion comprises a cross-country gas pipeline spanning 821 kilometres and an increase of network capacity to 354 mcm (12.5 bcf) per day.

Last week, Baker Hughes revealed it had been awarded a gas technology equipment supply deal for the infrastructure project.

CPECC is a contracting unit of China National Petroleum Corporation.
