Bluewhale 1 platform put into service

HONG KONG, March 6, 2017 – China National Petroleum Corporation’s offshore oil exploration platform Bluewhale 1 was put into action on Saturday, Chinese media reported.

 

At 42,000 tonnes, the semi-submersible unit is considered the largest of its kind. The platform, built by Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore, can drill down more than 15,000 metres and work in waters up to 3,658 metres in depth.

Bluewhale 1, which carried a USD 700-million price tag, will be operated by CNPC unit Offshore Engineering Company.
