Chevron reaches FID on third phase of Gorgon LNG in Australia

PERTH, December 5, 2025 – Chevron Australia and partners have reached a positive FID on the Gorgon Stage 3 project off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the company announced on Friday.
The USD 2-billion development will link the Geryon and Eurytion gasfields, located approximately 100 kilometres northwest of Barrow Island in water depths of about 1,300 metres, to existing subsea infrastructure and processing facilities on Barrow. Works will involve the installation of three manifolds and the construction of a 35-kilometre production flowline.
Gorgon supplies gas to the Western Australia market and produces 15.6 million tonnes per year of LNG for export via three liquefaction trains. The project is a joint venture between Chevron, which operates the project with a 47.33% interest, and ExxonMobil (25%), Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), MidOcean (1%) and JERA (0.417%).
Chevron and partners intend to drill six new wells in the Geryon and Eurytion fields.
“Gorgon is a world-class energy asset which plays a crucial role in supporting the economic development and energy security of millions of people in Australia and across the Asia Pacific region. With the development of the Geryon and Eurytion fields – to join the existing Gorgon and Jansz-Io fields in providing gas supply for the processing facilities – we can continue providing the reliable energy,” said Chevron Australia president Balaji Krishnamurthy.
Through its Australian subsidiaries, Chevron operates the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects and holds interests in the North West Shelf Venture. The company is also active in oilfield decommissioning and downstream fuel distribution across Australia.
