China’s Zijin to make Nepal copper mine world’s largest

The required approval for the Julong Phase 2 Project has been received from Tibetan authorities, Zijin said, and the company plans to raise the project’s mining and processing capacity from 150,000 tonnes to 350,000 tonnes per day.
If approved, a further expansion plan will roughly double this capacity, making the project the world’s largest single copper mine.
The phase-two project involves a self-financed investment of around USD 2.43 billion, the company said.
Zijin Mining Group undertakes global exploration and development of copper, gold, zinc and lithium. It ranks as China’s largest gold miner, according to Mining.com. The company mined more than 1 million tonnes of copper globally in 2023.
