Dangote Refinery to build fuel storage facilities in Namibia
WALVIS BAY, July 10, 2025 – The Dangote Refinery has launched plans to construct large-scale fuel storage tanks in Namibia’s Walvis Bay port, Reuters reported on Wednesday.
The project has a target total capacity of at least 1.6 million barrels for gasoline and diesel. It aims to support the refinery’s expansion strategy across Southern Africa by supplying refined products to markets such as Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Dangote is also evaluating fuel supply options for the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The 650,000-bpd facility, which began operations last year following its USD 20 billion construction, is now scaling up exports beyond West Africa, with recent cargoes bound for Asia.
A Namibia Ports Authority official confirmed the storage tanks would be located within Walvis Bay harbour, although costs for the new infrastructure were not disclosed. Sources close to the project said construction would begin shortly.
Earlier this year the refinery started building eight new crude tanks, increasing its storage capacity by 6.29 million barrels, or 1 billion litres. Once complete, crude storage at Walvis Bay will rise 41.7% to 3.4 billion litres, enabling greater throughput and flexibility in feedstock management.
