DeepOcean and partners to introduce next-gen heated subsea flowlines

OSLO, October 22, 2025 – TotalEnergies, Equinor, Aker BP, DeepOcean, Tenaris and LS Cable & System have partnered to commercialise FlowHeat, a next-generation heated subsea flowline system designed to cut costs and carbon emissions, DeepOcean said on Tuesday.

FlowHeat enables heating cables to be installed after pipeline laying or within reeled pipelines, offering up to 35% cost reductions and 30% lower emissions compared to conventional systems.

The technology supports tiebacks up to 30 kilometres, extendable to 50 kilometres, and operates in water depths of up to 3,000 metres.

“After a very important phase progressing from idea to proof-of-concept, TotalEnergies is very enthusiastic to enter in a full-scale validation… Together, we believe we can unlock longer tiebacks and access to remote reserves,” TotalEnergies offshore solutions and technology research manager Florent Boemare said.

DeepOcean leads the project, overseeing research and installation development. Tenaris supplies thermal insulation coatings, and LS Cable & System provides power and fibre optic cables.

The project, partially funded by the Research Council of Norway, is aimed at improving subsea flow assurance with a practical and low-emission solution suited for global deepwater applications.
