The natural gas reserves straddling reservoirs beneath Eni-operated Area 1 and Anadarko-operated Area 4 “intercommunicate across the blocks’ boundary,” Eni said in the statement. To address the issue, separate but co-ordinated work in the two areas will begin where the straddling occurs. After 680 bcm (24 tcf) has been produced, the concessionaires will develop the blocks together through a 50/50 joint venture between Eni and Anadarko. The deal is awaiting approval from the government of Mozambique.
Area 1 holds 2.12 tcm (75 tcf) of recoverable gas reserves, according to Anadarko. The US Energy Information Association pegs Area 4 gas reserves at an estimated 2.27 tcm (80 tcf).
