Eni in oil discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert

Eni has announced a second oil discovery in its acreage in the Faghur Basin of Egypt’s Western Desert, following a May find in the same area.

The discovery was made at the SWM B1-X well, which encountered 34.8 metres of light oil after being drilled to 4,523 metres, the company said in a press release on Monday. The company reported that the well is producing 5,130 bopd.

On May 3, Eni announced its first oil discovery in the Western Desert’s South West Melehia licence. Well SWM A-2X, which struck about 18 metres of hydrocarbons deposits, flowed 2,300 bopd and 11,300 cubic metres (400,000 cubic feet) of associated gas per day. The discovery announced Monday is around 6.5 kilometres from May’s find.

Eni made headlines with the discovery of the super-giant Zohr gasfield offshore Egypt in mid-2015.

In May, the company announced that it had doubled production at Zohr to 22.7 mcm (800 mcf) of gas per day.
