Equinor makes additional North Sea find

Norway

STAVANGER, February 10, 2023 – Equinor has made a commercial discovery near the Troll field in the North Sea, the Norwegian NOC announced on Thursday.

The company estimates the size of the Røver Sør discovery to be between 17 million and 47 million boe of recoverable oil and gas reserves.

Drilling of two wells was completed by the Transocean Spitsbergen rig.

The wells sit adjacent to existing infrastructure at the Troll field.

“As this discovery is close to the Troll field and other discoveries we have made in the area, we can already now state that it will be commercial,” said Geir Sørtveit, senior vice president for exploration and production west operations of Equinor.

Six other finds have been made in the area since 2019, including the Echino Sør play in 2019, Swisher in 2020, Røver Nord and Blasto in 2021 and Toppand and Kveikje in 2022.

The various discoveries hold an estimated 350 million boe.

Equinor’s next exploration well is named Heisenberg. Results are expected to be announced in March 2023.

The new wells are part of a multi-well exploration round in the area that will take place in 2023.
