ExxonMobil makes new discovery in Guyana’s Stabroek block

GEORGETOWN, March 18, 2024 – ExxonMobil has made its first discovery of 2024 in the prolific Stabroek block offshore Guyana, the company announced on Friday.

The Bluefin well, drilled by the Stena Drillmax drillship in 1,294 metres of water, encountered around 60 metres of hydrocarbons-bearing sandstone.

The well is located in the southeastern portion of the Stabroek block.

The discovery is one of more than 30 made on the prolific block since 2015.

“Our exploration programme continues to improve our understanding of the block’s potential to drive viable oil-and-gas development. This latest find reinforces that we have the people, skills and technology to safely and responsibly deliver value to Guyana from the country’s resources,” said ExxonMobil Guyana president Alistair Routledge.

The company has estimated the Stabroek block’s resources at almost 11 billion boe.
