The old link between central government-held oilfields near the city of Kirkuk and Turkey has not been used for years and is damaged due to violence in the war against Islamic State, Bloomberg reported. Its capacity is between 250,000 and 400,000 bopd.
Baghdad currently uses an alternative pipeline that is controlled by the KRG to export crude to Turkey. The move to repair the older pipe is widely seen as an effort to bypass the KRG following the September 25 independence referendum in Kurdish areas of northern Iraq.
The Iraqi oil ministry has not yet provided a time frame for the completion of the job.
