Fatalities reported in India refinery fire

JAMNAGAR, November 24, 2016 – A flash fire at Reliance Industries’ Jamnagar refinery has claimed the lives of two workers, while another six remain in hospital. Local police pointed to a gas leak as the cause of the accident, which occurred on Thursday.

 

The fire erupted at a refining unit under maintenance, according to a Reliance statement, which also said that the company’s fire brigade had managed to put out the fire “swiftly.” Despite the incident, “all operations of the refinery continue to be normal,” the statement continued.

A total of eight people were rushed to Guru Govindsinh hospital with burns. Two people succumbed to their injuries.
