Gas compression unit set for Cantarell

Malaysian company Coastal Contracts’ Agosto-12 gas compression unit has set sail from Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore’s Longkou shipyard in Shandong, China, to the Gulf of Mexico.

The shipyard owner said the Taisun 200B design unit was sailing for the Pemex-operated Cantarell oilfield under an eight-year charter. There, it will reinject associated gas into the oil layer to increase recovery rates.

Agosto-12 has four sets of hydraulic pin jacking systems with 3,200-tonne normal jacking and 6,000-tonne storm-holding capacity. The unit is adept of operating in a category three hurricane.

The Cantarell field is estimated to flare 17mcm (600 mcf) per day of associated gas, a figure set to be reduced to 5.66 mcm (200 mcf) per day once Agosto-12 comes on line at the asset, according to Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore.
