Gas is flowing at a rate of around 58,000 cubic metres (1.9 mcf) per day at the LAM-1 well in the onshore Lalla Mimouna block. The well was drilled to a depth of 1,541 metres in May.
The North African-focused company operates in Morocco’s Sebou and Lalla Mimouna blocks through its subsidiary Circle Oil Maroc.
“The productivity of this first well is very encouraging for the expansion of Circle’s portfolio of Morocco gas fields,” CEO Mitch Flegg said.
Morocco is a relatively underexplored gas province. The country is estimated to hold 566 bcm (20 tcf) in recoverable shale oil and gas reserves.
