GeoPark strikes oil in Colombia

Geopark announced on Tuesday it had discovered an 11th oilfield in the LLA-34 block in Colombia.

No information was immediately available about reserves at the Curucucu oilfield, which neighbours the Jacamar field in the same block. Tests on the Curucucu-1 exploration well showed a flow rate of 1,700 bopd of 15.8-degree-API oil.

“[This is] another geological and operational win for our team with our 13th new oilfield discovery in Colombia and successfully drilling a highly technical well with an extended reach,” said CEO James F. Park. “GeoPark’s long-term investment in our people, oil and gas capabilities, and regional platform continues to pay off and propel us into the leading position to take advantage of the exciting and abundant opportunities in Latin America today.”

The company plans to drill a total of seven wells in the block during Q3, the company statement added.
