Pemex gets early start on Zaap work

Pemex Exploración y Producción (PEP) will carry out maintenance work at the offshore Zaap platforms in the Bay of Campeche two months early, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The maintenance programme was originally scheduled to take place in November, but will now start this week and continue through September 11.

While the work is being conducted, PEP will see its output shrink 330,000 bopd, a volume which has already been accounted for in its yearly output projection.

The NOC is taking advantage of lowered marine traffic in the Gulf of Mexico in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Predicting that the hurricane would necessitate a delay in crude exports to and refined product imports from the southern USA, Pemex made preparations to obtain petrol and diesel from other areas.

Zaap is part of the shallow-water Ku-Maloob-Zaap complex, which is Mexico’s largest producing asset. The fields together have an average output of about 853,000 barrels of oil and 9.88 mcm (349 mcf) of gas per day.
