Guyanese leader calls for ‘immediate’ monetising of gas

GEORGETOWN, February 19, 2024 – Guyanese President Irfaan Ali has called for the “immediate” development and monetisation of the country’s natural gas deposits, in comments made at the Guyana Energy Conference & Supply Chain Expo 2024 on Monday.

A report from Bloomberg said the president outlined his goal of making the country a regional energy powerhouse, moving beyond oil production to embrace gas-to-energy.

He also highlighted the “enormous logistics and transport potential that will arise from the country’s gas-to-energy project when completed,” according to a media statement from the Office of the President.

The Guyana Energy Conference & Supply Chain Expo 2024 runs from February 19-22. The conference is being held under the theme of “Fuelling Transformation and Modernisation.”
