Hynamics UK and Hy24 to develop green hydrogen plant in UK
UK FAWLEY, July 10, 2025 – Hynamics UK and Hy24 have signed an MoU to jointly develop and finance a USD 407-million green hydrogen production facility in the UK, the companies announced on Thursday.
The agreement, formalised Tuesday during the French president’s state visit to the UK, marks the start of exclusive negotiations to build a 120-MW electrolytic hydrogen production facility next to ExxonMobil’s Fawley refinery in Hampshire.
The project, selected in the UK’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) in April 2025, aims to supply green hydrogen to decarbonise the refinery, which is the UK’s largest and supports over 2,500 workers. The initiative could cut up to 100,000 tonnes of CO2 annually by replacing heavy fuel oil and grey hydrogen. Hynamics UK and Hy24 also expressed their intention to collaborate on additional clean energy projects in the UK.
“I am delighted with this partnership with Hy24, which marks a new stage in the development of Hynamics’ projects in the United Kingdom,” Hynamics UK chief executive Pierre de Raphélis-Soissan said.
“Our MoU is in line with the Clean Industrial Strategy presented by the British Government in June.”
Amir Sharifi, Hy24’s head of UK, Southern Europe and MENA, said: “We see this as a very positive signal and a strong opportunity for Hy24 to expand into the UK for the first time, alongside partners who are deeply committed to the energy transition.”
Green hydrogen development in the UK is gaining momentum, supported by government schemes such as the Hydrogen Allocation Rounds and the British Energy Security Strategy. The country aims to reach 10 GW of low-carbon hydrogen production capacity by 2030, with at least half from green hydrogen. Several large-scale projects are underway across regions including Teesside, South Wales and the Humber, positioning the UK as a leader in hydrogen deployment for industrial decarbonisation and energy transition.
Hynamics UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of France’s EDF Group, focused on the development and operation of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen solutions for industrial and mobility use.
Hy24 is the world’s largest investment platform dedicated to scaling up the hydrogen economy through its Clean Hydrogen Infrastructure Fund.
