India’s BPCL to build $11-billion refinery in Andhra Pradesh
MUMBAI, December 26, 2024 – India’s Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) will build a 180,000-bpd oil refinery and petrochemicals complex in Andhra Pradesh, the company announced on Thursday.
With the country targeting an economy with net-zero emissions by 2070, the project may represent its last greenfield oil refinery.
BPCL’s chairman, G. Krishnakumar, told Reuters said the investment in the refinery would total around USD 11 billion. It is expected to process a minimum of 180,000 bpd.
Further details on the project remained unspecified, such as its timeline and the nature of the petrochemical products.
BPCL currently operates the Mumbai, Kochi and Bina refineries, which have annual capacities of 12 million tonnes, 15.5 million tonnes and 7.8 million tonnes, respectively.
