Iran reports offshore gas find

Iran

TEHRAN, May 25, 2017 – Iranian officials have reported the discovery of substantial reserves at an offshore gasfield that has been under exploration since 2014.

The Sepand field is located near the super-giant South Pars gasfield in the Gulf.

The play holds 42.5 bcm (1.5 tcf) of gas, of which 22.4 bcm (792 bcf) has been deemed recoverable, an unnamed official from the National Iranian Oil Company was quoted as saying by local media on Wednesday.

The official also said it was yet unclear whether the field is shared with Qatar, as is the case with South Pars.

The Sepand field was described as having a “wide horizontal natural gas structure.”
