Iran seeks to lock in Chinese imports: report

Iran

BEIJING, May 16, 2018 – Iran has requested Chinese assurances that oil imports will continue after the USA reimposes sanctions on Tehran, international media reported on Wednesday.

Top executives at state oil traders Sinopec and Zhuhai Zhenrong reportedly told National Iranian Oil Company official Saeed Khoshrou that they “shared the same hope to maintain purchases” but declined to offer guarantees, three anonymous sources told Reuters.

China imported about 655,000 bopd from Iran in Q1, or about a quarter of Tehran’s total oil exports, the report added.
