TEHRAN, March 5, 2018 – Italy’s Carlo Maresca will build a USD 100-million solar power plant in Iran, local media reported on Sunday.

The deal, signed with the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran, or IDRO, will see the Italian firm build a 100-MW solar plant in the central Iranian province of Semnan within a 15-month timeframe, Iran’s Financial Tribune reported.

Carlo Maresca made headlines in August of last year when it signed on to construct a 10-MW solar power plant in Iran’s Qeshm Free Trade Zone, a project whose first phase launched last week. With this earlier deal, the company became the first Italian firm to invest in photovoltaics in Iran.

IDRO is a governmental body that supports industrial projects and innovation in Iran. Since the lifting of sanctions in January 2016, it has signed co-operation deals with companies including Wärtsilä and HOT Engineering.
