KBR awarded project management contract for Lobito refinery
HOUSTON, March 15, 2024 – American science, technology and engineering company KBR announced on Thursday that Sonangol has awarded the company a project management contract for the engineering, procurement and construction phases of a new refinery in Lobito, Angola.
The refinery will have a 200,000-bpd capacity, which is expected to increase the country’s ability to produce fuel products by 200%.
Jay Ibrahim, KBR’s president for sustainable technology solutions said, “This win is indicative of KBR’s strategic commitment to offer differentiated technical services that support Angola’s sustainable development goals.”
The project is part of a collaboration between KBR and Sonangol that has lasted more than 20 years. In 2023 KBR finished the project’s FEED phase. The FEED design meets the 2030 African and European Product Specifications.
