Aker Solutions bags Rosebank FPSO contract

KBR to work on Equinor’s Canadian FPSO project

Canada

ST. JOHN'S, April 6, 2023 – KBR has been awarded a FEED contract from Norwegian NOC Equinor for its proposed Bay du Nord FPSO located in Newfoundland, Canada, the American engineering entity announced on Monday.

The works include delivering the topside facilities of the vessel, which will be done in conjunction with local subcontractor Hatch.

The proposed Bay du Nord development will be Canada’s first remote deepwater asset with drilling depths of around 1,200 metres.

The FPSO is expected to process 200,000 bopd from fields in the Flemish Pass basin.

FID on the project is expected within the next year.

“This win is indicative of KBR’s strategic commitment to work with clients not only to secure energy supply for the world but to do it in a safe, responsible, and sustainable way,” said Jay Ibrahim, president of KBR’s sustainable technology segment.

The win follows pre-FEED studies carried out by both KPR and Aker Solutions in 2022 as a design competition between the two players.

The Bay du Nord development was approved by government officials in April 2022.

In June 2022, BP signed a deal with Cenovus Energy to acquire its 35% stake in the project.
