KCA Deutag bags $204 million in drilling contracts

UK drilling and engineering specialist KCA Deutag has been awarded land drilling contracts for a total of USD 204 million in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bolivia and Peru, the company announced on Wednesday.

In the Middle East, the company has secured contracts in Oman for five rigs worth a combined value of USD 181 million, while in Saudi Arabia it has been awarded three short-term extensions on existing engagements for a total value of USD 16 million.

In Latin America, one of the company’s rigs in Bolivia has been awarded a six-month contract extension worth around USD 6 million and the company has closed two short-term workover contracts in Peru.

KCA Deutag did not disclose the names of the contracting parties.

Two of the rigs in Oman are being fitted with BESS energy storage systems designed and manufactured by Kenera, KCA Deutag’s technology arm. The systems are charged from existing rig generators and deliver power during peak loads, reducing the consumption of diesel and the resulting emissions.

Another rig in the Oman fleet will be coupled with a grid container which will enable it to be powered by the electrical grid instead of by diesel generators.
