Australia-headquartered Beach Energy revealed in its drilling report for May that the ASH-1X ST1 oil exploration well had struck hydrocarbons in the Alam El Bueib Formation.
The company said the well had reached a total depth of 3,290 metres and that testing over a 14-metre interval had seen a flow rate equivalent to 3,900 barrels of oil and 87,800 cubic metres (3.1 mcf) of gas per day. It added that the discovery had provided scope for further deep target exploration.
Kuwait Energy is the operator at Abu Sennan with a 50-percent interest, while Beach Energy holds 22 percent and Canada’s Dover Petroleum controls 28 percent. The block is located 300 kilometres west of Cairo.
