Kvaerner and KBR win Johan Sverdrup contract

Norway
Norwegian engineering company Kvaerner and US engineering, procurement and construction company KBR have been awarded a $842-million engineering, procurement and construction contract for Norwegian multinational Statoil’s Johan Sverdrup project 155 kilometres west of Stavanger, Norway. The joint-venture effort will construct the utility and living quarter platforms for the four-platform project.

Kvaerner is in charge of the utility module construction, with subcontractors in Poland fabricating the unit and completion to be finished in Norway.

KBR will provide engineering and procurement services for the utility module. The accommodation module will be built at Norwegian company Apply Leirvik’s yards in Stord, Norway and Emtunga, Sweden. The 19,000-tonne topsides will be assembled at Kvaerner’s Stord facilities. Both platforms are expected to be finished by the first quarter of 2019.

Commissioning assistance and offshore hookup services for the platform are an option included in the contract.

The Johan Sverdrup project is slated for production startup by the end of 2019 and will account for 25 percent of Norway’s oil and gas production.
