Maersk extends Australian drilling rig contract

Maersk Drilling has exercised an extension option with operator Inpex on provision of the Maersk Deliverer drilling rig on the Ichthys field offshore Western Australia, the Danish rig operator announced today.

The one-year extension is expected to begin in June 2023 and is a direct continuation of the rig’s current contract. An additional one-year extension exists in the agreement should both parties agree.

Cost of the extension was not disclosed.

Maersk Deliverer is a DSS-21 column stabilised dynamically positioned semi-submersible drilling rig that is able to operate in water depths of around 3,050 metres.

The rig is the first to use managed pressure drilling in Australian waters, which it performed under its current contract.
