Maersk vessel arrives in Ghana for Aker drilling

ACCRA, October 23, 2018 – The Maersk Viking has arrived in Ghanaian waters to drill for Aker Energy, the operator announced Monday.

“The drillship arrival marks an important milestone towards the start of the upcoming drilling campaign. The Maersk Viking will commence drilling of the Pecan-4A appraisal well when all preparations have been completed,” country manager Jan Helge Skogen said in a company statement.

The Maersk Viking, an ultra-deepwater drillship, is set to begin drilling in the Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points block in Q4 2018. The Pecan-4A well is expected to take 30-35 days to drill.

Aker Energy is the operator of the block with a 50% participating interest alongside partners Lukoil (38%), Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (10%) and Fueltrade (2%).
