Mafumeira Sul oil production starts
LUANDA, November 11, 2016 – Sonangol and partners Chevron, Total and Eni began production in the Mafumeira Sul oilfield located some 24 kilometres offshore Angola’s Cabinda province, the NOC announced on Thursday.
The USD 5.6-billion project is an expansion of production at the Mafumeira field located in Block 0. Early production systems at the project launched on October 31, with an initial production capacity of 10,000 bopd that is expected to rise to 110,000 bopd in a few months. At peak production, the field is also projected to produce some 7,080 cubic metres (250,000 cubic feet) of gas and 10,000 barrels of LPG per day.
Sonangol has a 41% stake in Mafumeira Sul while Chevron holds 39.2%, Total owns 10% and Eni 9.8%.
“This event represents another important step for the Angolan oil sector and for increasing domestic production,” Sonangol said in a statement.
