Main Mafumeira Sul facility on line
LUANDA, March 8, 2017 – Angola’s Sonangol announced the start of production through the main structure at the Mafumeira Sul oilfield on Wednesday.
The NOC, which has developed this project with Chevron subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company as operator, Total and Eni, had announced the start of production through the early production systems at 10,000 bopd in November.
Commenting on the feat, Chevron’s executive vice-president for upstream operations, Jay Johnson, said the milestone supported the company’s “priority of completing major projects and improving free cashflow.”
“The Mafumeira Sul project generates new production and value for Angola, our partners and the corporation,” he added.
The facility has the capacity to process 150,000 bopd and is expected to average 110,000 bopd when full production in reached in 2018. The oil will be sent to the company’s Malongo Terminal and the gas to Angola LNG plant. Deliveries to Angola LNG, as well as water injection, are expected to start in Q2 2017.
Sonangol holds a 41% interest in the USD 5.6-billion project, Chevron has a 39.2% share, Total owns 10% and Eni 9.8%. The project is located approximately 24 kilometres off Angola’s cost at a depth of 60 metres in Block 0.
