Major Mexico offshore projects move ahead

Japan’s Modec has received a letter of intent from Italian major Eni for an FPSO to produce from the Amoca, Miztón and Tecoalli fields in the shallow-water Gulf of Mexico, international media reported Wednesday.

The deal will include EPCI and mobilisation, as well as operation under a 15-year charter contract with five optional one-year extensions. The FPSO will have a production capacity of 90,000 bopd and 2.12 mcm (75 mcf) of gas per day, and be capable of injecting 120,000 barrels of water per day and storing 900,000 barrels of crude.

Following early production from the Miztón field in Q1 2019, Modec’s FPSO will begin producing from Miztón and Amoca in early 2021. The Tecoalli field will be brought on line in 2024 under the second phase of development.

BHP Billiton and NOC Pemex are also moving ahead with their plans in the deepwater Trion field, with an appraisal campaign slated to begin before the end of the year. The Trion-2DEL delineation well will be drilled with the Deepwater Invictus drillship over 60-90 days.
