Mari, MOL strike oil in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Mari Petroleum, in a joint venture with Hungary’s MOL Group, made their second discovery in the Karak block of Pakistan.

During testing, the Kalabagh-1A ST1 well flowed 101,510 cubic metres (3.58 mcf) of gas and 160 barrels of condensate per day in the Datta formation. In the Samanasuk Formation, the well tested at 144,053 cubic metres (5.09 mcf) of gas and 180 barrels of condensate per day. In the Lockhart formation, Kalabagh-1A ST1 flowed crude at 500 barrels of oil per day.

“MOL is [helping to] alleviate the energy deficits of Pakistan by maximising exploration and enhancing current production,” managing director of MOL Pakistan, Mr. Akos Grosz said in a press release.

The joint venture made its first crude oil discovery in the Karak block 8 kilometres away, with Halini-1 Exploratory Well-1 in 2011. Operator Mari Petroleum owns a 60-percent interest in the block, with MOL Group assuming 40 percent.
