McDermott lands new Saudi EPCI contract

On Wednesday, McDermott International announced it had been awarded its eighth engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract in Saudi Arabia since 2015.

The work entails slipover jackets and decks, as well as subsea pipelines and cables in the offshore Safaniya field. In Zuluf, the scope includes a well observation platform. Safaniya, discovered in 1951, is the largest known offshore oil field in the world.

While the the US engineering giant in a press release did not disclose the value of its contract, it did say the award was “substantial.”

“McDermott’s partnership with Saudi Aramco developing the Safaniya field dates back more than 50 years,” said McDermott’s Vice President Linh Austin in the statement.

“We believe we are uniquely positioned to achieve Saudi Aramco’s accelerated schedule based on our unparalleled experience providing integrated solutions within the region and in shallow water development and installation.”

The company also confirmed an earlier fast-track EPCI services contract with Saudi Aramco for three gas observations units and four jackets.

Finally, McDermott said it had been awarded a “sizeable” offshore pipelay contract in the Middle East, without elaborating on the exact location. The company said installation work would begin in 2018.
