Mercantile & Maritime partners with ADNOC to advance SAF in the UAE
FUJAIRAH, November 25, 2025 – The Mercantile & Maritime Group has signed an MoU with ADNOC Global Trading to explore collaboration on the development and offtake of sustainable aviation fuel from the country’s first SAF facility, the company said last week.
The SAF facility, led by MENA Biofuels, has been under development in the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone since the beginning of this month. In its first phase, the USD 200-million plant will produce 125 million litres per year using used cooking oil and waste feedstocks, with plans to double output to 250 million litres in a second phase. This will meet up to 36% of the UAE’s 2030 SAF production target.
MENA Biofuels has already signed an MoU with Emarat Petroleum Company for local SAF offtake and distribution across the GCC. The project is being managed by Dynatron FZE, with engineering and permitting led by MUC Engineering. EPCC tenders for logistics and processing units are underway, with commissioning expected by Q3 2027.
MENA Terminals, a key MM Group asset, is being expanded by 93,000 square metres to accommodate the SAF plant. The facility will integrate AI for operational optimisation and will operate as a fully carbon-neutral site aligned with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 goal.
The Mercantile & Maritime Group is an independent energy and commodities trading firm headquartered in Singapore with operations across the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
