Ministers to set West Africa Gas Pipeline tariff

The energy ministers of Ghana, Nigeria, Togo and Benin are meeting to discuss the West Africa Gas Pipeline tariff, local media reported Friday.

The committee of ministers is expected to broker an agreement on tariffs between the West African Gas Pipeline Company and the West African Gas Pipeline Authority, Ghana News Agency reported. The new tariff is set to go into effect January 1, 2019.

“Today’s meeting has to find sustainable solutions for the availability of gas at [an] affordable price and the best way to recover arrears from the gas exchanges,” said Sediko Douka, the commissioner for energy and mines of the Economic Community of West African States.

Earlier in the week, Ghanaian Energy Minister John-Peter Amewu said the West African Gas Pipeline Reverse Flow Project will be completed in June 2019.
