Mozambique eyes next licensing round

Mozambique is planning to hold a sixth oil and gas licensing round in 2017 or 2018, a government official told the Africa Oil Week conference in Cape Town.

Augusto Macuvele of Mozambique’s National Petroleum Institute made the announcement without providing further details weeks after Mozambique appointed a new energy minister.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, Eni said a final investment decision on the deepwater Coral South LNG project, which could be worth some USD 5.4 billion and have a production capacity of some 3.3 million tonnes of LNG per year, could be expected next month.

In recent years estimates of the country’s offshore gas reserves have risen from 127 bcm (4.5 tcf) to 2.83 tcm (100 tcf), according to the Oil & Gas Journal.
