Natron to build 24-GW sodium-ion battery factory in the USA
SANTA CLARA, August 16, 2024 – US battery manufacturer Natron Energy said on Thursday it plans to build a new plant in Edgecombe County, NC, that will produce 24 GW of sodium-ion battery storage per year at full capacity.
The facility is expected to increase the company’s production capacity by 40 times and will represent a total investment of nearly USD 1.4 billion, facilitated in part by a Job Development Investment Grant.
Sodium-ion batteries offer higher power density, more cycles and unique safety characteristics over other battery technologies, according to Natron, and the company is ramping up production to supply end users such as data centres and microgrids.
“This flagship manufacturing facility will dramatically accelerate our efforts to deliver sodium-ion batteries to customers who are hungry for safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible energy storage solutions,” said Colin Wessells, founder and co-CEO of Natron Energy.
