New blocks added to 2014 Colombia bidding round

BOGOTÁ , May 21, 2014 – Last week, Colombia’s National Hydrocarbon Agency (ANH) added six blocks to its Ronda Colombia 2014 bidding round.

The new areas include five offshore blocks – Guajira 8 and 9, as well as Sinú 5, 6 and 7 – and the Putumayo 34 onshore block in the southern part of the country.

ANH president Javier Betancourt said that the new blocks were included after two blocks were removed from the bidding process due to environmental concerns. Colombia’s oil and gas regulator is now offering 101 offshore, conventional and unconventional blocks, in addition to eight coal bed methane blocks.

To date, 46 companies have acquired technical information as part of the bidding round, including five foreign companies that currently do not own assets in Colombia.
