New Chevron CEO named

Michael K. Wirth was named the new CEO and chairman of the board of Chevron following the upcoming retirement of John S. Watson, the super-major announced on Thursday.

Wirth will assume the positions on February 1, 2018.

“Under [Watson]’s leadership, we’ve developed legacy assets in Kazakhstan, Australia and the Permian Basin that will underpin our portfolio for decades to come,” Wirth said. “John [Watson] will also be remembered for his plain-spoken and principled views on company business and energy policy matters.”

Mark A. Nelson will assume the position of vice-president of midstream, strategy and policy, also effective on February 1, 2018, the press release added.
