New Ecopetrol president steps in

BOGOTÁ, September 15, 2017 – Felipe Bayón has taken over as the new president of Colombian NOC Ecopetrol, international media reported on Friday.

Bayón, who had been the executive vice-president at the company since February 2016, was selected by a subcommittee of the board of directors, following the resignation of former president Juan Carlos Echeverry.

The new executive graduated from the University of Los Andes as a mechanical engineer and has worked in the domestic and foreign oil and gas industries for the past 25 years, 20 of which were with super-major BP.

After nearly two years of heading the NOC, Echeverry resigned on August 17, citing family reasons.
